About Solymár

Solymár is a commuter town of around 11,000 just northwest of Budapest, on the HÉV suburban rail line that runs out from Óbuda. The town has strong Swabian heritage, a famous cave system in the limestone hills above the village and an active community calendar that draws on both the established locals and the wave of newer residents who moved out from the city in the last decade. Most of the cultural programme runs through the Apáczai Csere János Művelődési Ház, which hosts concerts, theatre, children's programmes and the major village festivals across the year. The Schwabentag in summer and the Advent market in December are the two biggest fixtures, alongside regular folk-dance evenings, choir performances and the Solymári Pincenap wine event. The HÉV connection makes Solymár around 30 minutes from the city centre, so it's a practical evening-out destination for residents and visitors alike.
