About Dorog

Dorog is a small town on the north-western edge of the Pilis, with around 11,000 residents and a mining heritage that still shapes the look of the town centre. The cultural programme runs out of the József Attila Művelődési Ház, the regional anchor venue that serves Dorog and the surrounding villages with concerts, theatre, children's days and a steady year-round programme. The town also runs annual fixtures including the Dorogi Napok in summer, the Advent market in December and seasonal events tied to the mining heritage and the Bányász Brass Band. Dorog sits on the rail line out to Esztergom and on the main road west from Budapest, which makes it a practical 50-minute trip from the city. The surrounding hills are popular with walkers and cyclists, and the Sándor-Metternich Palace garden in town hosts open-air programmes through the summer.
