About Nagykovácsi

Nagykovácsi sits in a wooded basin at the edge of the Buda hills, surrounded on three sides by the Budai Tájvédelmi Körzet protected landscape area. The village has grown steadily as families have moved out from Budapest in search of forest, space and walkable village life, and the population now sits around 8,000. The events programme runs out of the Öregiskola community house and the Greguss Auditorium, with concerts, theatre evenings, children's days and regular farmers' markets. Outdoor events are a particular strength: trail-running races, family forest days, themed hikes and the annual Nagykovácsi Nap village festival in summer. Trailheads for the Buda hills start at the village edge, and the village is around 25 minutes from central Budapest by bus or car. Visitors come for the mix of forest access, family-friendly programming and a village atmosphere that still feels separate from the city.
