About Szentendre

Szentendre is the cultural anchor of the lower Danube Bend, twenty minutes north of Budapest by HÉV. The town has been an artists' colony for more than a hundred years and the cobblestone old town is still packed with galleries, ceramic studios, museums and small theatres. The main events programme runs out of Programok Szentendre and a dense network of venues that includes the Ferenczy Museum, the open-air Skanzen ethnographic museum, the Barlang creative space and dozens of smaller galleries. Big seasonal fixtures include the Szentendre Tavaszi Fesztivál in spring, the open-air summer theatre programme, the autumn wine festival and the long Advent market that runs through December. The town sits where four nationality traditions overlap (Serbian, Greek, Slovak and Hungarian), and the events calendar still reflects all four. Day visitors usually come for the museums and the riverside; evening visitors come for concerts, theatre and the food scene around Fő tér.
